Meet Angelo Luciani, aka JelloShot. Of course, there is a story behind the name, but not likely what you’re thinking. At a young age Angelo developed a passion for sports. He is a natural for any sport that has a ball and requires hand-eye coordination. Add in the high energy of a young boy and the very stylish jerseys, Angelo’s passion was all things soccer.
When Angelo was 7, he joined a travel club team. The team relied on him for all the special shots – corner kicks, penalty shots, direct kicks and of course, taking open shots from the field. The quickness of the game didn’t allow for a three-syllable name, so Angleo was shortened by his teammates to Jello. His ability to accurately shoot the ball was referred to as a JelloShot. The name stuck, but his passion for soccer was replaced by a very different game - golf.
Interestingly, the fast pace of soccer yielded to the methodical structure of golf. Angelo went from reading the field to reading the green, but result was the same…the JelloShot.
He was first introduced to golf through the First Tee of West Michigan. A national youth program that utilizes golf to demonstrate the importance of building the strength of character in managing life challenges. While learning the game of golf, Angelo also was learning life skills that build inner strength, self-confidence, and resilience. First Tee was instrumental in who he was becoming as a young man and as a competitive golfer. From a program participant to representing the First Tee at several national competitions, including golfing at Pebble Beach, and ultimately as a Junior First Tee coach.
Golfing in multiple tournaments each year, most of the players knew him as Jello. He was easy to spot on the golf course - the guy with a big smile and a well-coordinated wardrobe. JelloShotGolf emerged as a brand to remind you to bring your best self to every shot in life. Be kind, stay focused. Be humble, stay confident. Be helpful, stay true to yourself. Look your best, and be your best, now that’s the Real JelloShot.
